A few years ago I started to finish getting my education by getting financial aid. I applied for and got a pell grant. At the time it was me and my 2 oldest kids. The youngest started kinder garden so i thought it was time to make an example of myself and finish up my school.
I looked on the internet and found a government site that allowed me to apply online, and there was no fees involved. The school I choose to go to received the information straight from the site. I was able to sign up for 4 classes at a local 2 year school. I was able to start right away. I was able to get all my books and classes covered. I was able to have some left over to help with child care.
I was only able to finish 1 semester at that time because life happens. I had 3 more children and got remarried, not in that order! But that is a good helping of life! Now, 8 years later I think its time I go again! My smallest young one is only 2 right now so I have a full 3 years before he goes to school. I dont want to be in a classroom while he is still so young. I did some research and found out that I can take video classes at home from the same school that I was going to before!
Now isn't that good news? I wont have to worry about finding an accredited school that operates on line. You read me right, I can go to the same local school and take on line video courses from home. This is great! I can be with my kids, whenever I want and I can do my classes after bed time or during nap time! Everything is online. There are discussion boards to communicate with your teacher and classmates and a website to get your tasks on. I may have to go to the campus once or twice, but thats it. Everything else is at home. What is even better is that the pell grant will cover the video classes too, just the same as regular online classes.
If I could give advise to anyone that is waiting until their children are in school to start is, why wait? Go ahead and call local schools around you and see what the options are for video courses. To my understanding the classes are exactly the same as the on campus classes. The credits are the same, and I can do them classes when its convenient for me.
When my little man starts his journey in kindergarten, I won't be saying now that he's in school I can finish mine. Instead when he starts school I'll be starting to look for a job because I will have have earned my degree, and I will be able to use a pell grant to help me achieve this! - 29969
