How To Get A Free Credit Report

By Andy Zain

Commercials and website ads are constantly bombarding us with the option to get a free credit report. For most people, it is actually a good idea to view a credit report periodically. One can obtain one by going to a website, or a phone call can be made to request one.

When signing up to view a free credit report, a typical sign up form will appear. They need your information such as name and address. However, they will need further information. They will need your social security number, and they will ask security questions. This is your credit report, so you do not want someone else viewing your credit history.

There are so many different websites who offer free credit reports. The free credit report is offered through a free trial membership. They may offer 30-days of a free trial where the person can view their credit report and get their credit score. However, a credit card number will be needed because they in turn hope you choose to continue service with them. They will charge your card at the end of the trial if it is not cancelled. It is recommended to cancel this free trial before it expires to avoid charges.

The free credit report is provided from the three credit bureaus, TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax. This free credit report will include your credit score.

Once the membership trial is over, and a person continues with monthly services, they are allowed other services besides viewing their credit report. They can get identity theft protection as well. There are also other extra features like more information is provided about your credit history.

People get a credit report for many reasons. Someone who has applied for credit and has been denied can always get a free credit report for an explanation. People who need to improve their credit can view it to see what improvements have been made over the following months. Others may just be very interested in keeping their credit intact and want to view it periodically. This is exactly why there are free trials because it allows someone with good credit to look at their credit report once a year.

These services do provide a good service because looking at the credit report and score periodically is recommended. Knowing your credit score is important for those who want a home loan. If a free credit report is obtained through a free trial, it must be remembered that they will charge after the trial. So, if the regular membership is not needed then it needs to be cancelled. - 29969
